A summary New volunteers & staff continue to join scheme prior to beginning work. Oct 2012 retrospective checking begins for those already disclosed Churches Agency for Safeguarding (CAS) has an allocation of 8 checks per month in total for URC, Methodists, Congregational Federation & Quakers in Scotland. Obviously retrospective checking may take some time. Four years have been allowed for membership. Retrospective membership will follow this process: Form sent from Synod (September 2012) Every Church Secretary has received a form from the CYDO asking how many volunteers need to join the new scheme and when these volunteers were last disclosed for working in your congregation. You will also be asked to produce a copy of your churchs policy and procedures. This should include your Safeguarding Policy Statement AND your Safeguarding Procedures around safe recruitment of volunteers. Return form along with Church Policy and Procedures Church Allocated Timeframe for Submitting Applications Once you have returned your form and policy documents your church will be allocated a timeframe for checks. If you do not submit forms in your timeframe you may be put to the end of the process. Do not submit any applications for people who have already been disclosed until you are told to. Remember, Trustees are legally responsible to take all reasonable steps to ensure safe practice. Support Help is available. Support materials are available to download free.
